Sree Ayyappa Temple, Vasco Da Gama, an holy abode for Lord Ayyappa where hundreds of devotees are visiting regularly for worshiping irrespective of cast creed religion and position.
It was a humble and simple beginning during the Mandala season of 1977.Devotees worshiping Lord Ayyappa, dwelling in and around Mangoor village (Vasco) used to conduct Ayyappa Poojas, Bhajans at their residences before their pilgrimage to Sabarimala. These devotional togetherness paved way for an enriched bliss of spiritual enlightment amongst the participants . In the absence of a proper and convenient worshipping place, such bhajans were restricted only on Saturdays in the houses of Ayyappa pilgrims. With an aim to broaden the worshiping facilities to the Ayyappa devotees of Goa in general, a decision was arrived unanimously to form a body, named as Ayyappa Seva Samithi, Vasco. The Samithi came to existence on 29 March 1978. Ayyappa poojas and bhajans were performed on Saturdays during the Mandala / Makara Vilakku season before a framed photograph of Lord Ayyappa in the nearby temple, Shriram Mandir, Varunapuri. With the blessings of Lord Ayyapa, the inspiration and enthusiasm of the devotees under the guidance of the Managing Committee , the dream of a temple building at Mangoor Hills(Varunapuri) was achieved in the year 1980.
With the grace of almighty Lord Ayyappa, an Ashtakone Sreekovil could be constructed at that instance. Initially, a photograph Lord Ayyappa was placed at the Sreekovil. Finally, arrangements were made for installtion of the Panchloha Idol of Lord Ayyappa and upadevs i.e. Lord Ganesh, Karuppaswamy & Nagadevathas with the support of dedicated devotees and well wishers. The installation (Prathishta) karmas were conducted by the Chief Priest late PV Adithyan Namboodirippad being the Thanthri of the Temple on 18th January 1981 with all customary rituals and poojas as per vedic rites.
Today theTemple has developed to its full fledged shape thereby having enlisted as a Mahakshethra with the installation of Dhwajasthambham. Lord Subrahmanian, Devi Shantha Durga and Navagrahas were also been later installed and worshipped as upadeva prathishtas.
